What inspired you to choose this activity?
I saw eye opening documentaries and videos, such as a video of an escaped child bride named “Nada” ( which is in the description of the header above... watch it!) that depicted the injustice women and girls struggled with around the world everyday, as well as men’s acceptance of these outdated values. I felt empowered to make a major dent in this issue and change the world for women and girls today.
What is your personal investment in this activity?
I believe that by providing all women a nurturing environment and education from "their first breaths", violence, intolerance, and discrimination towards women can be eliminated. I want to become a strident advocate for women’s and girl’s rights, bring awareness to EVERYBODY about prejudice towards women all over the world, and inspire others through my own work to make a change.
What is your short term goal?
I believe that many injustices towards women can be prevented if adequate education is accessible to everyone. I hope to open new avenues for girls and women all over the world that make education accessible and urgent. I aim to eliminate the conservative and oppressive ideas confining women by bringing awareness to issues as such.
What is your ultimate goal?
Ultimately, want to eradicate the preconceived notion that, from birth, women are inferior to men. I wish to eliminate the sex slavery industry -- an issue to which I have immense personal connection. In my home country of Sri Lanka, the sex slavery industry is still prevalent and growing.
